Hey guys this is really really late notice but if anyone has any info on seeing a Richard Williams Book lying around the school please contact me (Sam). I honestly thought I took it home but upon cleaning up for moving I havn't found it. :( Thanks so much guys! see you in a few days!!

I know a few people were passing it around the lab, I dont remember who though.

SIGGRAPH Volunteers for the Capilano Booth!

I am looking for people to help at our booth at SIGGRAPH. Hours or days...whatever you can manage. You just need to be at the booth and talk to people about your experience at Cap. We'll have one or two Cintiq stations where you can animate and/or design for people.

It's time to design the winning entry for Animation Magazine's PITCH PARTY!

The blog will be open to everyone for now so you can read the rules, take note of the deadline and see last year's blog (pitchparty2010.blogspot.com).

Take a look at past designs and winners. Figure out what wins before you start your design:

1. A great idea. Think of your target audience.
2. Strong, appealing design (your area of specialization, for sure!) and good composition/colour design.
3. A catchy title/description (not too wordy).

This is what you need to send me before the deadline:
a) An image, EXACTLY 2.25 inches wide by 4.875 inches high (If you're using TV Paint, the equivalent is 1350 pixels wide by 2925 pixels high).
b) Up to 30 words (part of the artwork) to pitch the idea or character
c) The title of your Pitch (optional on artwork)
d) Contact information (email address and maybe your blog address if you've got a killer blog that you want people to visit)

e) Email me your name, title of pitch, email address and phone number that I will forward with the artwork.

This is a great opportunity. Let me know if you're in or not!

To book a camera, please look at the calendar below (we have 3 cameras so there are 3 calendars) and email me to book an open spot. Book only what you need for your shoot for Davor's class. When you see your booking online, then it is confirmed. Arrange with the person before you for the hand-off. If no one has the camera after you, RETURN CAMERA AND ALL PARTS TO JUDI/DON IN ARBUTUS BLDG.

Never leave camera out of your sight...always lock it away in your locker. By signing out the camera you accept responsibility for its safe return!!

Hey I just found out that all Autodesk software (SketchbookPro, Maya, etc.) is free for students :D I think the only catch is that if you try to print anything it'll print with a watermark but any digital copies you save are saved without any watermarks.

Also apparently students get an 80% discount off Adobe software. I don't know if anything about the software is different than the standard priced versions but it's still a really good deal!

Sketch Jam at Thalia's!!

So one of my dA friends (thalia-is-crazy) and i were thinking we should have a sketch party! She lives in South/Central Van i think, She can take about 4 people in her car, but the rest will have to bus it (it looks pretty simple on translink, just takes a long time)
There will be vegetarian Lasagna and Cake, and lots of sketching, she nor her roommate drink, bring your sketchbooks some paper and pencils!! If you want to bring a snack or side thats cool too.

The "Party" will probably take place Saturday night (around 5?)

I'll be able to take number's til tomorrow, but please let me know asap!!!

Newsprint on Sale & Mice and Magic Reservations!

Hey guys!

For those who still need to stock up on their newsprint supplies for life drawing, I went to De Serres (formerly known as Loomis, I believe) on Terminal and Main Street by Science World today and they have 18 x 24 sized pads for sale. The sale lasts until the 26th of September. I heard that Opus has a sale too, but I don't know if it's still on.

The pads I believe were $2.95-ish orignally, they are are $1.29 the moment--tax not included. It's 40 sheets per pad as opposed to the Cap bookstore being 50 sheets per pad and $4.50-ish for it.

Anyways, if you have your newsprint stock down, nevermind this!

I called Oscar's Art Books today as well and it seems that they're ordering more copies of Mice and Magic. They'll be coming in around Tues or Wed. Call in and ask if you can reserve a copy to buy, since I've done that for myself!

Getting to Spark tomorrow!

So i was thinking since Spark is so close to the end time of class, if anyone wants to just stay a while we can all be annoying and take the bus as a group, that way if people haven't learned the bus system yet (like me haha) or don't have a ride and such can go with some familiar people and get to the panel!

I just bought 15 tickets for A) The Visual Design of How To Train Your Dragon and B) the screening of the movie after the forum at the SPARK festival being presented by Vancouver SIGGRAPH organization. I am trying to buy more tickets for more 1st years and also 2nd year students to attend, however the online system isn't taking my card for more purchases.

So the Spark animation festival is coming and it starts off on september 8th and ends on september 13th, So I was thinking that since we're all a bunch of animation junkies is anyone interested in going? to sort of to kick off the begining of the year type of thing. Waking sleeping beauty is the first event after the first day of school it could be real fun :) and it gives us a chance to get to know eachother outside of class time. Wooooo for making new friends!

Hi and thanks for deciding to make Capilano University your home for the next two years.

Commercial Animation is a program designed to prepare you for a successful career. This blog is a way for you to interact outside of class with the rest of the group. You can use it to show off your work, get feedback, ask questions (and get answers), announce important events, etc.

Take a look at the previous class blogs to get an idea of how it works. After you graduate, the blog can be used to stay in touch with the rest of the class. Everyone who registers in the program this year will receive an invitation to participate in this blog. Participation is voluntary (we have a secure Moodle site for school related work) and the information posted here is public (so think twice about posting your personal information please!).

The email that you will need to use is this one:
your name@cms.capilanou.ca email address (the one you received when you applied to Capilano). Also, you should check that email often, or better yet, go into the Cap Webmail options to forward any mail that goes to capilanou.ca to another mail system you use (like gmail or hotmail)....something you check regularly. Otherwise you may miss important information.

I'll be posting things from time to time: books list, suggestions, events, etc.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and I'll see you in September.
